TEHRAN - The seminar on Isfahan and the Safavid era opened in Isfahan University on Monday.

The secretary of the seminar, Asghar Montazer-ul Qaem, said that this scientific and cultural seminar will examine the position of Isfahan as the capital of the Safavid kings in one of the brilliant eras of Iranian history.

He added, "The cultural, economic, and social development of Iran after the Safavid era was always associated with the name of Isfahan, and national unity under the influence of religion has put this city at the center of political and religious changes since the 16th century C.E.

Some 120 history researchers and experts from Iranian universities and research centers as well as an American history professor and a Scottish history professor are attending the two-day seminar.

Some 110 articles are being presented as a two-volume book and 50 articles are being presented as lectures.

Moreover, scientific meetings and exhibitions of books, handicrafts and documents from the Safavid era are being held on the sidelines of the seminar.
